Captain E L Goodwin, 5th Maine Infantry, Company B, was unable to do duty and was discharged on 20 September, 1861. He resigned on 29 September, 1861.

Second Lieutenant D S Barrows, 5th Maine Infantry, Company C, was assigned to command the company at the first battle of Bull Run on 21 July, 1861, and Captain I B Noyes, 5th Maine Infantry, Company C, and was discharged on 1 August, 1861. He resigned on 10 August, 1861, and Second Lieutenant D S Barrows, 5th Maine Infantry, Company C, was appointed captain, 5th Maine Infantry, Company C, on 15 August, 1861.
Company D: CAPT. E W THOMPSON
The company was accepted in state service for three years at Brunswick, Cumberland County, Maine, on 25 April, 1861, and was mustered in United States service for three years at Camp Preble, Island/ Cape Trotting Park, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County, Maine, by Captain T Hight, 2nd United States Dragoons, Company B, on 24 June, 1861. First Lieutenant G B Kenniston, 5th Maine Infantry, Company D, was wounded and captured at the first battle of Bull Run on 21 July, 1861, and Captain E W Thompson, 5th Maine Infantry, Company D, was discharged on 8 September, 1861.
